Long weekends are awesome get-aways. It doesn’t require seven vacation days – just a Thursday through Sunday – short flight or driving distance and become acquainted with your new destination.
Charleston, South Carolina is on my agenda. Some highlights prior to the journey:

Charleston, South Carolina is a charming city in low country. Quite easy to navigate on foot, one finds the city steeped in history, a blend of cultures, and full of kind people.
Departing from DCA on American Airlines, a quick flight into Charleston (1 hour 13 minutes), I arrived at The Vendue Inn.
Located about 25 minutes from the Charleston International airport (CHS), I arrived earlier than my girlfriend so went upstairs to the Rooftop Bar, taking in the views of the city accompanied by a glass of Rosé. Not sure it gets much better – until my BFF arrives. The gems we discovered during our 72 hours in Charleston were worth sharing. Maris Dehart, a chic lifestyle boutique across the street from The Vendue, supports local designers, is moderately priced and definitely worth a visit.
A few blocks away from our hotel is Carmella’s Cafe & Dessert Bar . After a few hours of walking the city, we stopped in to this cafe, downshifted for a few hours and enjoyed a delicious sandwich while watching the world go by. Not only do they have savory sandwiches, they have desserts. The dessert case takes your breath away. And, they will be available soon for shipping!!!!
Sweetgrass Baskets
Just as many languages are passed on by word-of-mouth, such is the tradition of Sweetgreen Baskets artistry. Ms. Debra Green outside of St. Michael’s Church in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, making a basket that takes many hours and a craft that is passed on through generations. Not only is she a talented artisan, she is a kind soul.
