Our truffle hunt was led by a local guide who has spent 25 years working the same hills alongside his trust partner – a dog who clearly knew the land better than any map could. We followed the two of them through the fields, learning quickly that trufle hunting isn’t about speed, it’s about patience. There is a quiet rhythm to it: watching the dog work, waiting, trusting the process. When we finally unearther a few prized truffles, we carried them back to our villa oursevles, where the estate’s kitchen turned ourmorning’s work into a lunch I still think about – simple, earthy, and entirely earned.
The owner himself took us into Pienza for what was, without exaggeration, one of the most extraordinary wine tastings I’ve ever experienced. The wines had been breathing since early that morning, given the time and patience they deserved before they ever reached our glasses. The food that accompanied them was exactly how Italians welcome you — into their home, their wine room, wherever warmth and hospitality happen to live that day. Nothing rushed, nothing performative. Just generosity, poured slowly.
Scenic drives through the Val d’Orcia rounded out our stay, each one a reminder that in Tuscany, the in-between moments are just as memorable as the destinations themselves.
